You may be wondering what all this hypnosis ‘stuff’ is about…yes, I use the word ‘stuff’ as I hear many people, including friends of mine describe what they ‘think’ hypnosis is, what it will ‘make’ them feel like, asking if they will do ‘quirky’ things under hypnosis, etc. Ok, let me help you dispel some of the myths so that I can put your mind at rest.

Many people don’t know what to expect the first time they try hypnosis so here are some simple notes:

Hypnosis usually involves you experiencing a deep sense of relaxation with your attention narrowed down and focused on appropriate suggestions made by me the therapist. Most of these suggestions are elicited from you and I discussing what it is specifically that has brought you to contact me today. This is fundamental, as you are unique in your own right and have particular ‘things’ that motivate and drive you and your behaviours. I find out what makes you tick and then utilise my experience to hand pick what techniques and strategies may work best for you.
Fortunately the days are gone where people’s perceptions are that of waving watches and controlling people’s minds. Hypnotherapy is nothing like stage hypnosis, where you may have seen people behaving in the most bizarre of ways. Just to reiterate, you are always in control and you cannot be made to do anything against your will. Which is why it is imperative that you want to make that change NOW!
